Irit Rogoff: Art’s Expansions in the Social

The new masters’ programme in Visual Culture and Contemporary Art, ViCCA, opens its first semester with a lecture by renowned theoretician, curator, and organiser Irit Rogoff to be held at on the 3rd of September 2014, at KIASMA Museum of Contemporary Art, Mannerheiminaukio 2, Helsinki.

Irit Rogoff writes at the intersections of the critical, the political and contemporary arts practices. Rogoff is Professor of Visual Culture at Goldsmiths, a department she founded in 2002, and where she directs the ‘think tank’ PH.D in Curatorial / Knowledge, teaches periodically on the PH.D. in Research Architecture, among other things. Her curatorial work includes: ACADEMY – a series of exhibitions and symposia between 2005 – 2007 with Hamburger Kunstverein, MUKHA, Anterwerp, Van Abbe Museum, Eindhoven and Goldsmiths College, Summit – Non Aligned Initiatives in Education Culture in Berlin, 2007 and De-Regulation – with the work of Kutlug Ataman’ MuHka , Antwerp, MCA Herzylia, KW Berlin in 2006-2008. She has presented numerous keynote addresses and papers delivered at international conferences on contemporary art and cultural difference, museums and participation in contemporary art, and issues of theory and methodology of visual culture.

CuMMA Discourse is a series of open lectures and seminars by international guests of the CuMMA Major. CuMMA Discourse Series will continue throughout the years of 2014-15 and bring more interesting turns of speech to Helsinki.

Nordes PhD Summer School 2014

The Nordes PhD Summer School 2014 edition will take place during 18 – 22 August 2014. The curriculum is organized by the Department of Media around the topic of The Perceptive Body, with contents curated by Prof. Lily Diaz-Kommonen. Most of the activities will take place at our facilities at Miestentie 3, in Otaniemi. The keynote presentations are open to all. Welcome!
