Poetics and Politics in Documentary Film, Research Symposium, April 22-24, 2013. Keynote by Trinh T. Minh-ha

The aim of the Poetics and Politics symposium is to strenghten dialogue between theory and practice in documentary film. We wish to promote a forum for discussions on the possibilities and approaches on practice-based research and theorizing that stems from artistic work. Filmmakers and scholars interested in conceptual approaches in documentary film are welcome to attend.

Vietnamese-American filmmaker and theorist Trinh T. Minh-ha will participate in the event and give a keynote lecture on Monday, April 22. On Tuesday morning, April 23, professor Brian Winston from the UK will give a second keynote.  The programme consists of 10 parallell sessions where filmmakers and academics present their work.  In addition, two recent documentary films are screened.

Grant Writing seminar, 26 April 2013, 9:00–15:30, Otaniemi

The Research Support Services organize a Grant Writing Seminar day on 26th April 2013 at 9.00-15.30 in Otaniemi, address Rakentajanaukio 4 A, seminar hall R2.

We target all Aalto researchers and professors, who are interested in improving their chances of winning funding bits to support their research.

The course comprises many thematic blocks, touching the most important aspect of grant writing. In cooperation with the Language Centre, we propose a section focusing on the use of English language in grants and how it differs from standard academic writing. In addition, we will listen to the experience of proposal evaluators and of researchers who used Aalto’s grant writing support service.

Aalto’s grant writers will present the most important aspects of all parts included in a proposal.
