Welcome to the Scalable teaching and assessment with MyCourses modules!

The training package formerly known as MyCourses for large courses has been reformulated and renamed to make participation easier and address better the needs of the teachers.

The training is now called Scalable teaching and assessment with MyCourses, and it is composed of 5 short modules that you can sign up for and attend independently of each other.

With the new name, we want to emphasize that scalable solutions can be flexible and useful regardless of group size.

The modules will be offered as such for the first time in December. See the modules schedule and a summary of their content below, along with the links with more info and the sign up form:

  1. Group work 12.12.2024 at 13.00–13.45 (online, Jaana Brinck)
    • How to select and set up activities in MyCourses to support group work in large courses? 
    • What are the known difficulties (such as slowness of the system) and how to work around them? 
    • About a few different ways to organise group work through teaching cases. 
  2. Communication and media use 12.12.2024 at 14.00–15.00 (online, Antti Huittinen)
    • How to communicate effectively using MyCourses tools and features e.g.
      • Forum -activity (announcements, public- and group discussions, peer evaluation) 
      • How to use video and audio as tools to enhance your communication feeds 
    • How to provide multi-language options within MyCourses and Panopto videos 
    • How to provide interactive media elements using ThingLink 
  3. Scalable assignments 13.12.2024 11.00–12.00 (onsite Otakaari 1, U411, Veruscka Xavier, Antti Huittinen and Luis Costa)
    • How to create language versions of an Assignment activity
    • How to use Rubrics and Marking Guide for grading and the difference between them
    • How to switch on Turnitin and set it up correctly, and how to choose the correct activity for Turnitin checks
    • How to set up an Assignment activity as an Examination
  4. Assessing with Quiz13.12.2024 at 13.00–14.00 (onsite Otakaari 1, U411, Karoliina Pakkanen)
    • How to create a Quiz activity, and use it as an examination
    • How to use question bank
    • How to switch on Safe Exam Browser settings for restricted examination on students’ own devices
  5. Stack 13.12.2024 at 14.15–15.15, (onsite Otakaari 1, U411, Matti Harjula)
    • Creation of a basic STACK question, largely based on the quick-start guide, including but not limited to:
      • Giving feedback about common mistakes.
      • Follow through marking in multi-part questions.
      • Quiz settings relevant to STACK.
      • Dealing with inevitable mistakes in grading logic and how to fix them in a running quiz.Dealing with localisation of STACK questions.
