Boost ASR accuracy on Panopto with a Custom Dictionary tailored to Aalto University
Despite today’s rapidly advancing speech recognition technology, we’ve all encountered moments when Panopto Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) systems misinterpret our words—especially with specialized terminology, acronyms, anglicisms or the unique slang we use at Aalto University.
To address this, we’re creating a Custom Dictionary. This allows us to fine-tune the ASR captioning by incorporating commonly used names, acronyms, and phrases that might not be recognized by standard speech recognition algorithms.
Your input is crucial to making this tool as effective as possible. If you’ve noticed that Panopto’s AI has struggled with certain words or phrases in your lectures, we want to hear from you. Perhaps it’s a specific term in your field, an acronym unique to your department, or a commonly used name that’s frequently miscaptioned either in Finnish or English. By contributing these words to our Custom Dictionary, you’ll improve the accuracy of captions for everyone at Aalto University.
Simply mail any words or phrases you’ve noticed to panopto@aalto.fi. Our team will review and incorporate them into the Custom Dictionary.
