Visualise your lectures using lightboard
A lightboard is a powerful tool for online teaching as it allows instructors to easily create high-quality video content for their students. The lightboard is essentially a transparent board that is illuminated from behind, which allows the instructor to write or draw on the surface while facing the camera. This allows the instructor to maintain eye contact with the camera and their students while also providing clear, easy-to-see visual aids.
One of the main advantages of using a lightboard is that it allows instructors to create engaging and interactive content for their students. Instead of simply lecturing in front of a camera, instructors can use the lightboard to write and draw diagrams, equations, and other visual aids that help to explain complex concepts and make the material more accessible. Additionally, the lightboard allows instructors to highlight key points and emphasize important information, which can help to keep students engaged and focused.
Lightboad suits well for visualising mathematical concepts, equations, and scientific consepts : it can be used to write out and explain mathematical formulas and concepts in a clear and visually appealing way. At Aalto Lightboard has been used successfully also in language teaching to demonstrate and explain grammar and syntax of different languages.
Another benefit of using a lightboard is that it makes it easy to create high-quality video content that is both polished and professional. The bright, even lighting provided by the lightboard ensures that the content is clear and easy to read, even on small screens. Additionally, the ability to easily record and edit videos later with Panopto means that instructors can create content that is tailored to the needs of their students and that is easy to navigate.
The Lightboard has moved to its own room starting in 2023. It can be found in a new location at M143, Otakaari 1. It is now a self-service facility and can be booked from ASIO.
