Pitkän koronatauon jälkeen oli jälleen aika järjestää Akvan ja vesi- ja ympäristötekniikan tutkimusryhmä WAT:n jo perinteeksi muodostuneet helmikuiset pikkujoulut. Pikkujoulujen tarkoituksena oli tavata vanhoja sekä uusia tuttuja Vesitalon henkilökunnan, vesi- ja ympäristötekniikan opiskelijoiden, alumnien sekä yhteistyökumppaneiden kesken. Tilaisuuteen saapuikin lähes 130 verkostoitujaa, ja edustettuina olivat monen muun lisäksi mm. AFRY, HSY, Luke, Ramboll sekä SYKE.

Vieraita olivat vastaanottamassa professori Harri Koivusalo sekä Akvan entinen keulahahmo, erikoislaboratoriomestari Aino Peltola. Tilaisuuden alussa vierailla oli mahdollisuus tutustua Aallon vesi- ja ympäristötekniikan tutkimukseen ja opetukseen sekä Akvan toimintaan kierrettävillä rasteilla ympäri Vesitaloa. Lisäksi Vesitalon ulkopuolella järjestettiin jokivirtausta jäljittelevän vesikourun sekä virtavesiryhmän mittalaitteiston, erityisesti vedenalaisen dronen, esittelyt. Nämä herättivät juhlaväessä erityistä kiinnostusta. Rastien jälkeen WAT-opiskelijat ja WAT-alumnit kutsuttiin hetkeksi Lifewide WAT-hankkeen vetämään speed dating -tutustumishetkeen jakamaan ajatuksia opinnoista ja urapoluista. Rastien jälkeen tarjoiltiin työfuksien loihtimia vegaanisia coctailpaloja – vegaaniskagenia, bataattinappeja, härkistomaattipiirakkaa sekä jälkiruoaksi mokkapaloja.

Illan aikana vesitalo täyttyi vanhojen ja uusien tuttavuuksien keskusteluilla. Tunnelma oli niin riemukas juhlan loppuun saakka, että osa juhlaväestä jatkoi iltaa vielä viereisessä Fat Lizard -ravintolassa.

After a long corona break, it was again time to organize the pre-Christmas party that has become a tradition for the water & environmental engineering research group, WAT, and Akva. The purpose of the event was to gather together Water building staff, WAT students, WAT alumni and other stakeholders for meeting old and new partners. Nearly 130 visitors from e.g. AFRY, HSY, Luke, Ramboll and SYKE attended the event.

Professor Harri Koivusalo and Akva’s former chair, senior laboratory technician Aino Peltola were welcoming the guests. During the event, the visitors had the opportunity to get to know Aalto’s water & environmental engineering research and teaching, as well as Akva’s activities in infopoints organized around the Water building. In addition, demonstrations of WAT research infra were organized next to the Water building: the water flume imitating the flow of a river, and the measuring equipment of the stream water group, especially the underwater drone, which raised special interest among the guests. After the infopoints, WAT students and WAT alumni were invited to meet each other by the Lifewide WAT project to share experiences and thoughts on studies and career paths. The menu of the evening was all vegan, including vegan skagen, sweet potato buttons, vegan tomato pie and mocha pieces for dessert.

During the evening, the Water building was filled with conversations between old and new acquaintances. The atmosphere was such relaxed and joyful that some of the guests continued the evening in the Fat Lizard restaurant next door.

WAT would like to thank all the participants, and specifically Akva and the first year students for all the practicalities, and MVTT ry for financial support. Looking forward to collaborating in the future, too!
