10.40 – 12.10 the STAGE Round-table discussion – Challenges and opportunities of interdisciplinarity in risk studies and risk research– chair Aiste Balzekiene, Senior researcher in sociology, Kaunas University of Technology (KTU), Lithuania/Risk-Net -project:
This session invites researchers, academics and practitioners to discuss the challenges posed and opportunities provided by interdisciplinarity in risk studies and risk research and their application to encountering real life risks. What kind of methodologies and approaches define the field of risk studies or how should it be defined? Is it possible to integrate risk analysis methods from different scientific fields in risk research? How to advantageously integrate diverse practical experiences into the risk studies programs? But also, in turn, how to enable open communication between risk research and practical fields and how to advantageously integrate risk research knowledge into various practical fields?
This discussion is inspired by an ongoing Erasmus+ funded project “Risk and Security Governance Studies within Baltic – Nordic Academic Community of Practice” that aims at creating an interdisciplinary curriculum in risk studies and also seeks to establish a Community of Practice for risk researchers and academics in the Baltic-Nordic region.
The panel session encourages sharing of experiences and ideas (co-production of knowledge) concerning the ways researchers and practitioners can interact in the Community of Practice and how such community could contribute to and supplement Society for Risk Analysis – Nordic Chapter activities.
