Nielsen, J. (1993) Usability Engineering. Academic Press, Boston, USA. 358 p.

Although Nielsen’s book is now 20 years old, it still is a good reference on things like how to make a heuristic evaluation, how can usability be measured and what sort of ethical considerations are involved in having real users participating in usability tests. The book is not written in an academic style, but it does have good references for further reading, and it is easy to read. Time has passed, so some of the examples are somewhat outdated, but the idea behind them remains the same. Therefore, on its 20th anniversary, I still recommend Nielsen’s book to those interested in usability engineering and its methods.
