I read this paper because Karsten (2001) used the concepts from this article. Authors refer to communication that strengthens the unique knowledge of a community as perspective making, and communication that improves its ability to take the knowledge of others into account as perpective taking. “As a perspective strengthens, it complexifies and becomes better able to do knowledge work”(p.356). Boundary objects provide basis for perspective taking, since for perpective taking focus is on making individual’s knowledge visible and available for analysis and communication.
