This paper list some of the basic challenges of product life cycle management. It also presents a technical solution for it, but that is not in my focus. Hence, I list the basic challenges. Product life cycle management demands that product information must be accessible during product’s entire lifetime. This has become more challenging due to the complexity of company networks. The basic challenges are:

  • master data is not defined (difficulties in updating information)
  • more than one access point to information (information is scattered)
  • information overflow when all the information flowing to the supplier must be assossiated with the final product
