Eckert, C. & Stacey, M. (2001) Dimensions of communication in design, ICED01

I read again this article when I was looking for some kind of classification of the different communication types in design communication. I am looking at computer support for the different kinds of types. This need for support is also briefly mentioned in the paper. The paper lists 6 types of discussion:

  • Request for information
  • Negotiation for clarity and negotiation of constraints
  • Idea generation
  • Conflict resolution
  • Decision making
  • Justification

To me it seems that there is missing type that would be something like “giving information”. What I mean is that these types do not raise awareness of each others tasks since there is a lot of information pulling but not pushing.
