Lee et al. give a nice introduction in involving users to product design. They claim collaboration (if understood) is the magic bullet to users’ tacit needs. The Authors claim literature to see distinctions between UCD, participatory design and designing for experience which I’m not so sure.

The main beef, I guess, is that by collaborating in a “shared workplace” users and designers can truly explicate tacit knowledge and create shared understanding. Proposed research framework and coding system has some good points in it, but video-based discussion analysis has not been my weapon-of-choice.

Still looking for that seminal work on key aspects of design…
