Paper presents an integrated representation of communication based models of design to create common basis for discussion. It is suggested that models can represent how artifacts (boundary objects) mediate between designers and consumers, as well as designers and their collaborators. Paper discusses how designers and consumers understand artifacts differently, since they have their own contexts (experiences, motivations, culture etc.) where they experience the artifact.
