For the first time, an English-speaking group is also available. Work coach groups are part of our pedagogical course offering. Are you considering taking part and interested in what it could bring to you? Can you fit it into your busy schedule? What does work coaching involve?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"633\" height=\"420\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.aalto.fi\/opit\/files\/2025\/08\/image-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1952\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Teaching is both fascinating and challenging. Many educators feel isolated in their work, and work coaching offers a confidential space to explore these challenges. Groups of 3-6 teachers from various fields meet monthly to discuss teaching issues, receive support, and share ideas. The coach ensures safe discussions that advance shared goals, such as well-being and organizing work.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Work coaching can help teachers manage their workload and improve personal well-being. Marja Elonheimo, a pedagogical expert trained in work coaching, will lead the English-speaking group.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Outi Rautakoura, a digital learning expert and solution-focused coach, has been leading Finnish groups since 2021. Here, she shares some insights:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What themes are explored in work coaching?<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We don\u00b4t have a ready-made list of topics; we discuss what is relevant to participants. Topics include for example work-life balance, defining boundaries, clarifying roles, focusing on strengths and values, and handling difficult situations like specific interactions.&#8221;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What challenges do teachers bring to the group?<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Teachers often hold themselves to high standards and can feel isolated. It can be demanding to organise the workdays between teaching and research. Support from colleagues or supervisors is sometimes lacking. Besides improving and developing, it&#8217;s essential to appreciate the great work already done.&#8221;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How are challenges addressed in work coaching?<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;There&#8217;s always something to be done, and even small practical improvements can make a difference. This reflects the solution-focused approach of coaching. Group discussions can spark new ideas for small, meaningful steps forward and help recognize the rewarding aspects of teaching. Sometimes it&#8217;s helpful to simply accept the situation, in case it cannot be changed. Sometimes, participants get the courage to make even bigger changes.  &#8221;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What feedback do participants offer?<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Participants value peer support and find sharing experiences with colleagues rewarding. Being heard and exploring insightful questions are beneficial for advancing their teaching practice. Aiheita voivat olla &nbsp;esimerkiksi ty\u00f6n ja vapaa-ajan tasapaino, rajojen m\u00e4\u00e4ritt\u00e4minen, roolien selvent\u00e4minen, vahvuuksien ja omien arvojen selvent\u00e4minen sek\u00e4 vaikkapa hankalien vuorovaikutustilanteiden k\u00e4sittely.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mit\u00e4 haasteita opettajat tuovat keskusteltavaksi?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Opettajat asettavat itselleen usein korkeita vaatimuksia ja saattavat tuntea olonsa yksin\u00e4iseksi. Ty\u00f6n j\u00e4rjest\u00e4minen opetuksen ja tutkimuksen v\u00e4lill\u00e4 voi olla haastavaa. Kollegojen tai esimiesten tuki on joskus puutteellista. Parantamisen ja kehitt\u00e4misen lis\u00e4ksi on t\u00e4rke\u00e4\u00e4 arvostaa jo tehty\u00e4 hyv\u00e4\u00e4 ty\u00f6t\u00e4.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Miten haasteita k\u00e4sitell\u00e4\u00e4n ty\u00f6nohjauksessa?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Aina on jotain teht\u00e4viss\u00e4, ja pienetkin k\u00e4yt\u00e4nn\u00f6n muutokset voivat vaikuttaa paljon. T\u00e4m\u00e4 ajattelu heijastaa ty\u00f6nohjauksen ratkaisukeskeist\u00e4 l\u00e4hestymistapaa. Ryhm\u00e4keskustelut voivat synnytt\u00e4\u00e4 ideoita pienist\u00e4 askelista eteenp\u00e4in ja auttaa my\u00f6s tunnistamaan, mik\u00e4 opettamisessa on itselle t\u00e4rke\u00e4\u00e4 ja palkitsevaa. Toisinaan on hy\u00f6dyllist\u00e4 yksinkertaisesti hyv\u00e4ksy\u00e4 tilanne, jos sit\u00e4 ei voi muuttaa. Toisinaan osallistujat rohkaistuvat tekem\u00e4\u00e4n suurempiakin muutoksia.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Millaista palauttetta osallistujat antavat?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Osallistujat arvostavat vertaistukea ja kokevat kokemusten jakamisen kollegoiden kanssa palkitsevana.
