While digital learning materials make teaching and learning more flexible and diverse, they also bring accessibility challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How can accessibility issues hinder learning? Imagine that\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>You present an important chart without alt text:<\/strong> a student using a screen reader doesn&#8217;t know what information the chart contains.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>You only give titles to some slides:<\/strong> this significantly complicates navigation for a student using a screen reader.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>You summarize all the essential course info onto a single slide using small font: <\/strong>a student with low vision or dyslexia struggles to read the text properly.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>You highlight key concepts and important dates with colored font: <\/strong>If information is conveyed only through color, a colorblind student might not perceive key differences.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to start improving accessibility? These templates are designed with accessibility requirements in mind<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Headings<\/strong>: Provide a descriptive title for each file and slide. If you use the same title multiple times, distinguish them by, for example, using numbers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Reading Order<\/strong>: Ensure that the elements on the slides are read correctly by screen readers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Alt Texts<\/strong>: Add alt texts (alternative texts) to all images and graphic elements. This helps visually impaired students to perceive the visual content.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Text and Background Contrast<\/strong>, Good contrast \u2013 the difference in darkness between two colors \u2013 ensures readability. Use dark text on a light background or vice versa. The minimum contrast ratios are 4.5:1 for text and 3:1 for large text and graphical elements. This means that the text must be 4.5 times darker than the background color.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Font Size<\/strong>: Ensure the font size is sufficient, at least 18 pt. This enhances readability across different devices and situations.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Clear Font: <\/strong>&nbsp;Choose clear, easily readable fonts like Arial. Avoid decorative fonts.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Links: <\/strong>Provide descriptive text for links that informs the user about the website\u2019s content and where the link leads.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Colors<\/strong>: Do not use colors as the only way to highlight information.
