No brain no gain (NBE-E4210, week 2)

Week 1:

We are all very excited to start our neuroscience studies. One of us is a NEURO student and the other two are BME students. The brain is something that fascinates us all and we hope we’ll learn a lot about it over the course of this Fall.

The first lecture was great! We learned the practicalities of the course and had a great introduction to the world of neuroscience. We liked how the professors spent some time to talk about the bigger questions in life from the aspect of neuroscience before going into any specifics. This really caught our interest.

The same stands for the rest of the topics of the lecture. We had a good look into the different brain regions, imaging technologies and neuron structure. Most of this was completely new to us. We knew about the different imaging technologies, but the MRA imaging was completely new to us.

We all did our bachelor’s in chemical engineering, which was probably why we found the physics part of the lecture the most challenging. However, we are sure we will be able to understand the physics by dedicating some extra time for this course. The course book seems to also help in this one.

The course book seemed easy to read, considering the difficulty and complexity of the subject. Let’s see if we still think so a few weeks from now.

Really looking forward to seeing what the rest of the course holds! Best of luck to all!
