Disable in OS X:

launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.metadata.mds.plist

-> services.msc -> Windows Search Service -> stop + disable

At least with Canon 5D bodies broken USB is repaired expensively by changing the whole motherboard of the camera.
