WEEK 3:First weeks of course structure and operation of the human brain

I decided to take this course because I am doing a doctoral degree on neurotechnology, therefore I would like to learn as much as I can about the structure and function of the brain.

These last weeks I have been busy trying to caching up reading the book and listening to the lectures. So far has been quite interesting. As a biomedical engineer, these subjects are not new for me, however molecular biology is a subject that I studied more than 15 years ago. Some things sound familiar, so is very nice to revise those again, although these subjects are very complex.

The exercises and quizes have been helpful on the assimilation of the material. It has been great to revise the Nerst equation and derive it from the Boltzmann equation, it helped to understand better the resting potential as well as the action potential. I think some of the new things I learned are the different types of cells on the brain, specially the different glia cells and their functions.

Finally, while reading the book I have found an increased interest in understanding how the brain works. I am looking forward to understand how the memory works, consciousness and similar subjects.
