Walls

Walls

by anonymous student

Our lives happen in the spaces where we move and live, space which are delimited by walls. Walls have played a focal role forever, and most of us have paid no attention. 2020 put a spotlight on walls, giving new meanings in particular to the domestic walls that each one of us was forced to refer to as our barriers. All of a sudden, our houses’ walls became the liminal spaces distinguishing safe from unsafe. Most of us have seen walls as freedom suppressors, and for some, they actually represented a threat. We paid new, considerable attention to walls: we repainted them, we communicated messages through them, we chose them as backgrounds for video-calls, and we even placed new plexiglass walls everywhere. 2020 has been a year of walls whose faces were not all positive, and not all negative. In 2020 by using walls, we protected but also expressed ourselves, our creativity and our feelings.
