This type of data is not available at Aalto Department of Finance
Sometimes students have clear and specific ideas on what they want to write their thesis about. Before planning into detail, it is advisable to start with ensuring that the data need is either available or somehow collectable (though Amazon’s Mechanical Turk for example).
Here are some common examples of data that you might think we have access to, but do actually not have.
Chinese Equities
China is an interesting market to study, but Aalto University Department of Finance does not have access to CSMAR or equivalent. Studying Chinese equities is thus a no go.
Bond indices
Through Eikon/Datastream there is access to “iboxx” and “Thomson Reuters” -bond indices, because these are covered by the basic agreement. Other bond indices are listed on Eikon/Datastream, but cannot be accessed because these would require a separate subscription.
Venture capital
Aalto University Department of Finance does not have access to Pitchbook.
Options
We do not have access to Option Metrics.
LexisNexis
Our department does not subscribe to LexisNexis database.
