We Built This City With Dirt Under Our Fingertails
I lectured yesterday about urbanism at Aalto University´s School of Architecture. It made me think of the radical change that has happened in ways we think about life in cities. Still, when I was nine years old, the biggest dairy company Valio ran TV ads where life in the city was described with phrases such as “I had to leave so many genuine things behind“.
Traditionally cities were built for trading and sharing resources. The result – proximity and shared infrastructure – is their greatest sustainability potential. But here in the North we still have a lot to do in adopting urban lifestyles.
