When Microsoft has announced its Productivity Future Vision (2011), I have started an entry on how it does not align with our natural, expressive abilities and senses. But, Bret Victor, in A Brief Rant on the Future of Interaction Design nailed it down, and has asked:

With an entire body at your command, do you seriously think the Future Of Interaction should be a single finger?

I’d only wish that he’d also consider the auditory feedback we get during direct, manual manipulation. There is, however, an emerging community of Sonic Interaction Design researchers looking into this, and we’ll surely experience their impact soon.
