If you don’t feel comfortable with programming, there is an easier way to publish a map in your web site. Use embedded maps functionality from NLS map portal (http://www.paikkatietoikkuna.fi) The guide tool allows you to create a map window of your choice and you can embed the map window on your website.
The process is very simple:
- Select background maps
- Select a map
- Define map settings
- Completed map and copy/paste code into your web page
You can select background maps to be embedded from the menu on the left. Select first the theme or the organisation you want to use, or search directly with the map layer name. Then click the map layer you want to use, and the map will appear in the preview window. If you select more than one background map, the user can replace the background map in the map view, by selecting a new map from the drop down menu in the map window’s upper right corner. The map that appears on top of the map stack at the bottom of the left column is shown as a default value. You have to select at least one map either in step 1 or 2.
You can adjust the transparency of the background maps using the slide control under the map name. You can change the default scale of the map using the slide control in the preview window. The changes you make are automatically updated in the preview window. Observe that all the maps cannot be viewed at every scale level.
You can change the order of the background maps by dragging the map in the map stack. The map is moved by clicking and holding down the left mouse button on the map name and by dragging it upwards or downwards in the map stack, keeping the mouse button pressed down.
Start by entering the name of the website where you want to embed the map. The name has to be entered without the http and www prefixes, e.g.: suomi.fi. The function prevents embedding the map on any other website than the one you specify. The name of the map is also mandatory information.
NOTE! The embedded maps cannot be used on SSL encrypted websites (https).
You can choose the size of the map you embed, either by using predetermined options or by indicating the size you want to use. The maximum size is 1000 x 1000 pixels.
You can also choose which tools are shown on the map. The default tools are scale slider as well as address and placename search.
Map position and scale show the coordinates for the centre of the map in the ETRS-TM35FIN coordinate system as well as the default scale in use.
The definition of the map is completed. Copy and paste the HTML code below to your website in order to embed the defined map. E.g.
<iframe width=”375″ height=”300″ frameborder=”0″ scrolling=”no” marginheight=”0″ marginwidth=”0″ src=”http://www.paikkatietoikkuna.fi/widget/web/fi/julkaisijankartta/-/MapPublished_WAR_mapportlet?id=632″></iframe>
