Auditory system (Week 7)

The topic of the lecture this week was the auditory system. We went through the mechanical capturing of the sound waves, the formation of the neural impulse and the processing of the signal in brain. We also learned how the auditory system can recognise different sounds. I think, I’ve learned the basics of the auditory system about fimes already during my education, but every time we have gone deeper and deeper into more detailed description. So, even this time I learned something new: how different parts of the brain that normally have been doing something else can adapt into new tasks when person loses for example one’s sight and needs to rely more on hearing. -S

I was super interested in the ways we determine the direction of sound. Because we know a lot about how the brain interprets noise, we get cool 3D audio experiences using for example earphones, such as this. – V
